Get the rare out

Friday, October 06, 2006

I've always been a fan of b-sides and rarities. Buying 7" records and compilations was fun, but what was possibly even more rewarding was gathering up enough rare songs by a band to fill up one side of a cassette tape. I can't say I ever stopped doing this, as I've been downloading my fair share of non-album tracks via filesharing programs for the past few years. Take a little, give a little. For any Wolfie completists out there, here are the two songs I contributed to both of our Japanese releases on Philter Records back in 2000. Joe Ziemba also submitted 2 of his own songs to the releases. If you asked him nicely maybe he'd agree to let me put those songs up here as well. These cds sold for about $30 each as imports, so I'm guessing that lots of you haven't heard them before. Enjoy!

Love Bugs - from Awful Mess Mystery (Philter Records Japan exclusive track)

Upper Peninsula - from Where's Wolfie (Philter Records Japan exclusive track)

Mike D., I bestow upon you my blessings. I can't remember what two songs of mine were used, but I'm sure they are quite entertaining. Post 'em.

I remember listening to Upper Peninsula over and over and over when you gave me the cassette mixdown for these CDs. It was really nice to hear it again. Thanks for posting the songs.

That's cool Mike. No problem. Incidently, I just found both the US versions of these CD's in our local used CD store! I promptly snatched them up! In college I always listened to Paul (from PRC's) copies as we were roommates, but I haven't heard them for years now. It's great to revisit these "classic" albums!

haven't heard from Paul in a long while. Red Carpet Ring was a great label and the tour I did with The Princeton Reverbs Colonial was definitely memorable.

I hope to upload Joe's songs in the future. Thanks for your kind words on those Wolfie albums!

aj put a wolfie song on one of my mixtapes once. i then made a list of all the bands that he'd introduced me to that i liked, and i took it with me when i went to the record store. i happened upon where's wolfie during such an occasion. (and the coat and hat, but that's beside the point.)

anyway, mr and mrs season is a song that i have put on many many many a mix cd in my day. so thanks. you're kind of like a mini celebrity in my world.
