Here's that live version of Sleep Out's "Cat or a Horse" that I mentioned yesterday. This song reminds me of gloomy afternoons and the optimism they can bring.

Ride the White Horse

Tuesday, February 27, 2007

Back in 2005 my friends Sleep Out released a live version, via their website, of a song called "Cat or a Horse." I immediately fell in love with the song and ended up doing my own really quiet live version of it when I was doing solo shows with just a guitar. Sleep Out went on to re-record the song as part of their debut album I Was Your Shroud.

Even after having 2 recorded versions of the song and covering it I still couldn't get enough. I emailed Quinn and asked for the vocal track of the song to remix. Quinn, being the swell guy he is, happily cooperated in sending the files my way.

So, here it is. Download it here for the time being. I think it'll find a permanant home on Sleep Out's site in the future.

Discography

Thursday, February 22, 2007

I can't help it. I'm going to keep digging back into my past bands and projects until there's nothing left worth posting. I think by 2008 I'll be totally done with this and will be able to just let all of the information sit online. For the time being the old trunk of stuffs is still somewhat full.

I compiled my complete discography for the first time. This info may only be worthwhile to me, not sure, but it felt good to get everything in writing all in one spot. The above artwork isn't everything, just what I could find online and in my files. Anyhow, follow this link to the past discography page. It's a whole lot of text and, for me, the script to a whole lot of great memories.

hollAnd: The Paris Hilton Mujahideen

On a completely random chance I ran across this album a few days ago. I had no clue that Trevor Kampmann, known as hollAnd, was still releasing music. Turns out this is his first full length since 1997's amazing Your Orgasm, which just happens to be one of those albums that inspired me quite a bit with home recording back in those formative years of mine.

I bought this album on iTunes because once I saw it online I knew I had to have it immediately. I couldn't wait for anything to be shipped or count on any of the shops here to carry it. And because of that, copy protected technology won't let me share any of the songs with you. So that's sort of a bummer. But I highly recommend this. It was released on Teenbeat. It's all I've listening to for the past 2 days so I figured it deserved some attention here.

Here's one of my favorites off of the afore mentioned Your Orgasm

Btw, if anyone out there has a copy of Magnetophone, a cd by hollAnd's old project Sea Saw, please do get in touch. I used to have a cassette copy of it back in the day, and that's long gone. I'm sure we could figure out some sort of trade.

Internet Exploring

Sunday, February 18, 2007

I've been messing with the look of my blog quite a bit over the past week. The changes have been minor, but aesthetically pleasing I think. That was until I took at peek at it on a PC running IE. Wow, what a crappy browser. I know a whole lot of people are using IE so I'm going to try and fix this stuff soon. Sorry if anything has looked ugly as of late.

IE people: Firefox is a really good browser!

Enough of that talk. To each their own. Its back to the HTML and CSS tutorials for me.

Master me

I didn't mean to finish my album Total Hearts on Valentine's Day. It just sort of happened that way.

Sewn to a sinewave

Looks like I made my Swedish Radio debut. Cool! My remix of Juvelen's "Hanna" aired towards the beginning of P3 Pop last night. Follow the link and you can stream the entire episode. Last night's program featured some of the electronic music that's happening here in Sweden as well as Labrador Records who just celebrated their 10 year anniversary.

I've been meaning to break this out to all of my American friends for a while now but was just reminded of it just now. Here's your Swedish lesson for the day (year).

Here in Sweden, quite a few words are borrowed from the English language. I'm glad for this as it makes my life here in spoken form just a bit easier at times. Well, one word that wasn't borrowed was "walkman." These wonderful and portable devices existed here just as much as they did anywhere else in the world but the Swedes borrowed a completely different English word to describe it...
Swedish entry word
freestyle [²fr'i:staj:l] freestylen freestylar noun
kassettbandspelare i fickformat med hörlurar (English)

English translation
Walkman, portable cassette player

That's right. In Swedish a Walkman is called a freestyle. I think that's pretty wonderful.

Bringing it all back home to the year 2007, go download a few episodes of Beats in Space and throw it on your iPod. In the event that you did feel like freestyling your way around the city with some music in your ears this would be the perfect soundtrack.

Just super

Well, the first play of the game was nice. And there's always next year. And the honey-roasted peanuts were just to die for. Purple Rain was emotionally rewarding. And, go Cubbies!

Super Bowl Monday

Sunday, February 04, 2007

Kick off time (in Sweden) : 12:25AM
My schedule for Monday : clear
Beer sitch : Carlsberg, enough
Snack sitch : Chips, dips, honey-roasted peanuts and chocolate-covered raisins

I said this a year ago and I'll say it again, days like this make me just a bit homesick. Having my hometeam in possibly the biggest sporting event in the world makes it just that much harder. But I'm going to soldier through the night here. No matter what my passport might say one day, I'll aways be a Monster of the Midway. It's cold outside, but with all of this built-up Super Bowl fever, it's getting hot in hur.

But first, a nap.

Hanna (Mike Downey remix)

Friday, February 02, 2007

My remix of Juvelen's song "Hanna" is now streaming over on my myspace page. It is supposed to appear as a proper download on the Hybris site, the label that released the original version of this song, in the near future. I'll shoot off a link here when that happens.

Have a fancy weekend.
